1.1) GitHub Installation
Visit the official GitHub Desktop download page:
https://desktop.github.com/download/
The website will automatically detect your operating system (Windows or macOS) and provide the appropriate download button.
Click Download for Windows or Download for macOS to get the installer.
Disclaimer:
This tutorial is about GitHub Destkop, there is also an alternative Git Client.
We will focus it on GitHub Desktop, because of it's simplicity in user friendliness.
The Git Client is a bit more complex, with also more usable functions.
But for the sake of completeness the download link:
https://git-scm.com/
So depending what you prefer you are free to use on of those Clients for the upcoming workflow.
Once the download is complete, open the installer (GitHubDesktopSetup.exe) from your Downloads folder or the location where the file was saved.
Double-click on the installer to start the installation process.
Choose your preferred language and click Next. Review and accept the license agreement. Select the installation location (or leave the default) and click Install.
After the installation is complete, click Finish to launch GitHub Desktop.
When GitHub Desktop opens, you will be prompted to sign in to your GitHub account. Click Sign in and enter your GitHub credentials (username and password).
If you don’t have an account, you can create one by visiting:
https://github.com
GitHub Desktop will ask for your name and email address to configure Git. This information will be used for commit history.
Congrats! GitHub Desktop is now installed and ready to use.
Next step will be to clone our GitHub/Gitea Repository by selecting File --> Clone repository
